What Nutritional Medicine Actually Is
Nutritional medicine is not dietary advice. The Nutritional Medicine Practitioner applies a thorough understanding of biochemistry, physiology, and nutritional science to assess individual clients, identify nutritional contributors to disease and dysfunction, and design targeted therapeutic protocols grounded in current evidence.
The Bachelor of Nutritional Medicine at ICNS trains practitioners in the full clinical scope of evidence-based nutrition: from foundational macronutrient science through to the design of therapeutic protocols for complex, multi-system presentations.
The programme is notable for its attention to pharmacology and pathophysiology — areas often marginalised in nutrition education but essential to safe clinical practice. A Nutritional Medicine Practitioner who understands conventional medical management, drug-nutrient interactions, and pathological test results is a far more effective and safer clinician.
Graduates leave as qualified Nutritional Medicine Practitioners and Integrative Health Practitioners — also recognised as Nutritionists — practising across private practice, integrative clinics, corporate wellness, and online consulting. Graduates are eligible to apply for IICT membership, which provides professional recognition across 36 countries.

At ICNS, every graduate is trained and credentialed as an Integrative Health Practitioner — a designation that reflects both the clinical rigour of the training and the professional standard to which practitioners are held. The specific discipline title defines the primary scope of practice; the Integrative Health Practitioner framework defines how that practice is conducted: systematically, safely, and in informed relationship with conventional medicine.

From the Graduate
“Nutritional medicine at this level is clinical science. The ICNS programme taught me to read pathology, understand drug interactions, and justify every protocol I write. That’s what sets it apart.”
— Graduate, Bachelor of Nutritional Medicine
What This Programme Develops
The ability to conduct thorough nutritional assessments within a clinical case-taking framework.
Knowledge of macro- and micro-nutrient biochemistry, metabolism, and therapeutic application.
Clinical competency in designing individualised, evidence-informed nutritional protocols.
Understanding of pathophysiology, pharmacology, and drug-nutrient interactions.
The professional and ethical grounding to practise safely, competently, and independently.
Curriculum structure, module descriptors, credit point structure, and rules of progression are set out in the Course Handbook.

How the Programme Is Structured
The programme moves from biological sciences through progressive stages of nutritional science — always building toward clinical application and professional readiness. Pharmacology and pathology are embedded throughout, not treated as optional extras.
Anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, and pharmacology — the science behind every nutritional intervention.
Macro- and micro-nutrient biochemistry, clinical assessment, dietary analysis, and nutritional therapy principles.
Evidence-based therapeutic protocols for metabolic, gastrointestinal, hormonal, and systemic conditions.
Supervised consultations, differential diagnosis, clinical safety examination, and practice management.
Full module descriptors, credit points, and progression requirements are provided in the Course Handbook, available as a free download.
Who This Programme Is For
Those drawn to the science of nutrition
Suited to those who want to understand the biochemistry behind clinical nutrition, not just apply dietary guidelines. This is evidence-based practice, not wellness advice.
Practitioners seeking rigorous clinical qualification
Ideal for those already working in health, fitness, or coaching who want a formal, internationally recognised clinical credential in nutritional medicine.
Career changers entering natural health
No prior science background is required. Bridging courses in Health Sciences and Chemistry Foundations are included in the programme.
Students seeking flexible online study
The 3 year study programme is delivered entirely online. An intensive 2 year option is available to those who can commit to full-time study. You can log in from anywhere in the world, at any time.
